The 90-Day A1 Roadmap
Exactly what you learn, week by week, from your first German letter to a full Goethe A1 (Start Deutsch 1) mock exam.
Format: weekend batch, Saturday & Sunday, 8:00–10:00 PM — about 4 live hours a week across roughly 13 weeks, plus daily practice material between classes.
Goal: reach CEFR A1 — introduce yourself, handle everyday situations, and sit the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start Deutsch 1) with confidence.
DAYS 1–20 · WEEKS 1–3
Fundament — laying the foundation
You stop guessing at German sounds and start reading anything aloud correctly.
- Sounds & script: the alphabet, Umlaute (ä, ö, ü), ß, and the tricky clusters — ch, sch, sp/st, z, v, w, ei vs. ie
- Grammar: personal pronouns; sein and haben; regular verb endings in the present tense
- Grammar: der / die / das, ein / eine, and how German plurals actually work
- Questions: W-Fragen (wer, was, wo, wie, woher) and yes/no questions
- Vocabulary: greetings, numbers 0–100, countries, languages, days of the week
- You can: introduce yourself, spell your name aloud, give your number and address
DAYS 21–50 · WEEKS 4–7
Aufbau — building real sentences
The longest phase, and where most of your everyday German gets built.
- Grammar: Nominativ and Akkusativ — the case that changes der to den
- Grammar: negation with nicht vs. kein; possessives (mein, dein, sein, ihr)
- Grammar: modal verbs — können, müssen, möchten, wollen — and word order with two verbs
- Grammar: separable verbs (aufstehen, einkaufen, anrufen) and the imperative for requests
- Vocabulary: Familie, Tagesablauf, Essen & Trinken, Einkaufen, Wohnung & Möbel
- Skills: telling the time, dates and prices; filling in a simple form; writing a short message
- You can: order food, shop, describe your day and your home
DAYS 51–75 · WEEKS 8–11
Vertiefung — past tense & fluency
You start talking about things that already happened — the last big A1 hurdle.
- Grammar: the Dativ case and the prepositions that trigger it (mit, bei, nach, zu, von, aus, seit)
- Grammar: Perfekt — past participles, and choosing haben or sein
- Grammar: Wechselpräpositionen (in, auf, an) for saying where things are and where they go
- Vocabulary: Freizeit & Hobbys, Körper & Gesundheit, Reisen & Verkehr, Wetter
- Skills: listening to short announcements and phone messages; reading ads, signs and emails
- You can: describe your weekend, book an appointment, ask for directions
DAYS 76–90 · WEEKS 12–13
Prüfungsreife — exam ready
Nothing new is introduced. Everything gets rehearsed under exam conditions.
- Hören: all three parts, trained for the single-play questions
- Lesen: short texts, classified ads and true/false traps
- Schreiben: completing a form, then writing a short personal message
- Sprechen: the three parts — introducing yourself, asking and answering, making a request
- 5 full Goethe-pattern mock exams with timing, marking and individual feedback
- You can: sit Start Deutsch 1 knowing the format inside out
Looking for the A2 or B1 plan?
This detailed day-by-day roadmap currently covers A1 only. A2 and B1 follow the same four-phase structure, but those plans aren't published yet — message us and we'll take you through the syllabus for your level.
Ask about A2 & B1 on WhatsAppDo I need prior knowledge of German to join A1?+
No — A1 is for absolute beginners. We start from the alphabet and pronunciation, so no prior exposure is required.
Are the classes live?+
Yes — every class is taught live online by a trainer. A1 and A2 run on weekends, B1 on weekdays, all 8:00–10:00 PM. We don't provide recordings at the moment, so attending live matters. Between sessions you get daily practice materials to keep working on your own.
What if I miss a class?+
Since we don't record sessions yet, the notes and practice material for that day are shared in Google Classroom so you can catch up. You can also message your trainer on WhatsApp with questions and pick them up at the start of the next class.
Can I pay the fee in installments?+
Yes. Every level allows a two-part payment — the first installment before the batch starts and the second after 30 days. Exact amounts are listed on the Batches & Fees page.
Is your certificate an official Goethe-Institut certificate?+
No. Our mock exams and completion certificate follow the Goethe exam pattern, but German Arambh is an independent institute and is not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut. If you need the official certificate, we'll guide you through registering for the Goethe exam separately.
Do you help with Ausbildung or visa guidance?+
Yes — once you're certified we offer guidance on Ausbildung applications, work-visa and study-abroad documentation.
Is there a day-by-day plan for A2 and B1?+
Our published 90-day roadmap covers A1 in full. The A2 and B1 syllabi follow the same four-phase structure but the detailed plans aren't published yet — message us on WhatsApp and we'll walk you through the syllabus for the level you need.
